Nervous System 3: Osteopathic Pathways From Emotion To Inflammation: The Crossroads Of Brain, Heart, Gut And The Tide
An opportunity to study with Dr Bill Foley DO MSc (USA)
This advanced osteopathic course invites practitioners into a dynamic exploration of the emotional and physiological continuum as perceived through the lens of cranial and biodynamic osteopathy. Grounded in the living anatomy and guided by the Breath of Life, we will explore the subtle relationships that connect the nervous system, viscera, and emotional centers of the human being. Through lectures and hands-on engagement, we will examine the conduit for divine love and presence, learning to perceive and support healing. In The Amygdala and Emotional Rescue, we will explore the visual and limbic interface as an entry point to deep neurologic and emotional reorganization, guided by the practitioner’s capacity to synchronize with Stillness.
"The Tide is not a technique. It is an invitation to listen to what is already there".
— James Jealous, D.O.
We will trace the continuity of the enteric nervous system, the so-called “second brain,” and its resonant dialogue with the primary respiratory mechanism, paying close attention to how the fluid body responds to perturbations and finds its way back to health through the inherent therapeutics of the body. The 4th ventricle, with special attention to Sutherland’s CV4 technique, will be explored as a site of cardio-respiratory centers and brain stem function. Where Potency and Transmutation gather, balance, and clarify the system.
"Be still and know. That stillness is where you will find the presence of the Tide".
— William G. Sutherland, D.O.
We will deepen our understanding of the vagus nerve as a mediator of parasympathetic tone and anti-inflammatory regulation. Lectures on the brainstem and defacilitation will provide a framework for recognizing when the system is held in states of unresolved defence, and how, through perception, neutrality, and fluid engagement, the practitioner can invite a reorganization toward health. Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed on the practitioner’s perceptual development—learning to receive rather than do, to listen rather than fix. In alignment with the biodynamic model, we will attune to Primary Respiration, the movement of the Long Tide, and the organizing presence of the Midline.
"To find health should be the object of the doctor. Anyone can find disease".
— A.T. Still, M.D., D.O.
The course outline
This course is for osteopaths who are called to work at the subtle interface of body, mind, and spirit—where the invisible becomes perceptible, and where dysfunction finds its path to resolution through the wisdom of the living body.
The prerequisites for study and recommendations for registration
Course is offered to graduated osteopaths. As admission requisite, phases I-III from ‘Biodynamics of Osteopathy’ curriculum by James Jealous DO, must have been completed. It is recommended, but not a requisite, that phases I-V have been completed too.
